Polyethylene Twill Screen

A fine mesh material used on Suction Tables and small suction devices on the surface to increase airflow underneath an artifact and provide a barrier between the aluminum surface of the suction device and the treatment. Resistant to most solvents, Polyethylene Twill Screen should be replaced when it becomes soiled or damaged. Ships rolled. Teflon tape is used to adhere the twill screen to the surface of the table or device.

Vacuum Diaphragm Material

6 mil thick vinyl material, used on suction tables, vacuum hot tables, and small suction devices as a diaphragm material. Resistant to most solvents. Vacuum Diaphragm Material can ship either folded or rolled.

Hollytex

Hollytex is a spunbonded polyester fabric with a very smooth surface which results from compaction of the fibers after forming. An excellent support fabric, it also comes light weight with a base weight of only 1 oz per sq. yard and a thickness of 0.00025 inches. Our thicker hollytex has a base weight of 2.4 oz per square yard and a thickness of .00053 inches.

Archival Polyester Film

SH72 film is a tough, clear, 100% synthetic polyester resin film combining outstanding durability, dimensional stability and electrical, thermal and barrier properties. It is certified Archival, and is the equivalent of Melinex 516 or Hostaphan 435M.

It is completely neutral in pH and of great clarity. Our Archival Polyester Film is not affected by oils and greases and will function up to 300°F, retaining its clarity, flexibility and toughness. Film contains no plasticizers to migrate out onto art or documents.

Silicone Release Paper

A white 27 lb. paper coated with silicone resin on both sides. This silicone release paper retains its release properties right up to the char point of the paper.

Dartek

Dartek is 0.75 mil thick, clear cast Type 6,6 nylon film with no plasticizers, additives or surface coatings of any kind. It is much like Mylar, but softer. As Dartek comes 80 inches wide, conservators find it is useful as a covering membrane for lining paintings on a vacuum hot table. Dartek conforms easily, is clear, does not puncture readily and does not appear to stick to painting surfaces. Dartek is sensitive to moisture. The film normally contains about 1 or 2% moisture as shipped. At a relative humidity of 80%, Dartek will absorb water up to a moisture content of about 6%. The physical properties of this film are greatly influenced by the water content. At low water content, Dartek seems brittle like Mylar but as its water content increases, Dartek becomes softer and tougher. Dartek also becomes softer as it is heated and it does retain its useful properties up to about 400°F.

Blotting Paper

100% cotton blotting paper with a neutral pH, unbuffered. Available in 20 pt., 30 pt. and 100 pt. thickness.

Spunfab

The replacement for Bostik, an acid free, low melting, thermoplastic adhesive in a fine web form. It is a webbing prepared from plasticizer-free copolyamides especially formulated for textile bonding. It is an adhesive made from high molecular weight, semi-crystalline, polar copolyamides, suitable for high frequency welding and steam activity to bond textiles. Melting range is 105° to 115°C.

Non-woven polyester often used as a support in paper conservation for leafcasting, washing, and other functions.

Tyvek

Glassine

Acid-free, unbuffered with a neutral pH. 12-point paper has a unique transparency. Used for interleaving and wrapping textiles and paper, as well as painting overlay. Available in rolls and sheets.

Tissues

Available in both buffered and unbuffered varieties,generally used for storage of both photographs and textiles. Photo-Tex tissue is 100% Cotton Rag, unbuffered. Buffered tissues have 10% calcium carbonate buffering. Wet Strength is used for facing paintings.

Silicone Release Film

Mylar coated on one or both sides with silicone. Ideal when a transparent, non-stick surface is needed. 2-sided film is 1.5 mil thick, 1-sided is .5 mil (.127 mm) thick.
