Gum Damar #1

Technically a resin and therefore insoluble in water, Gum Damar # 1 is the most suitable type for artists simple solution varnishes. Damar varnish retains it colorless appearance longer than any other common varnish.

Incralac

Special Lacquer for Copper, Brass and Bronze Protection Developed by INCRA (International Copper Research Association) expressly for copper-bearing alloys. Most clear coating failures on bronze, brass and copper are due to underfilm staining and tarnishing. INCRALAC contains benzotriazole as a chelating agent to prevent this action. Affords superior resistance to ultraviolet light; excellent resistance to salt air environments. Can be expected to provide at least 5 years protection (normal exterior with 1 ml thick coat). Remove with conventional paint strippers. Air dries to touch and recoat in 30 minutes; complete cure in 48 hours. 13% solids. Incralac covers an approximate surface area of 150 sq. ft/gal. Can be thinned or removed with xylenes.

Now available in a water-based formula that dries to a slightly harder finish. Can be removed with N-Methyl-2-Pyrolidinone. Water based formula does not ship as a hazardous material.

Soluvar Varnish

A removable picture varnish. Colorless, highly durable, non-tacky and non-yellowing. For use on acrylic and polymer colors, oil color, casein and tempera paintings , so that traditional cleaning, restoring and revarnishing can be accomplished. Easily and safely removed, even after many years, using Stoddard solvent, mineral spirits or turpentine.

Tinuvin 292

A hindered amine light stabilizer to be added to LMW resins and rubber.

Elvacite 2044

Elvacite 2044 is an n-butyl methacrylate polymer. Soluble in mineral spirits. Xylenes, VM&P Naptha, and Shell Cyclosol. Available in powder form.

Regalrez 1094

A LMW resin that is more stable than Arkon P-90. Extensively age tested as a picture varnish to replace the less stable natural resins and ketone resins. High quality of UV stability for its type of hydrocarbon resin.

Zonarez No. 7115

Used with microcrystaline waxes for painting relining. Light in color. Heat stable. Neutral resistance to acids, alkalais, salts, and water. Thermoplasmic polyterpene resin.

Paraloid B-44

Paraloid B-44 (formerly known as Acryloid B-44) is am Ethyl acrylate copolymer. It is suggested to be used for the coating of bones, metal and stone. Supplied in pellet form.

Paraloid B-48N

Paraloid B-48N (formerly known as Acryloid B-48N) is a Methyl Methacrylate copolymer. It is unique in adhesion to bare and primed metals in addition to possessing toughness, flexibility and exterior durability. This resin has excellent block resistance and fast solvent release and is attractive for both air - drying and baking finishes. Suggested uses are as a coating for copper, bronze and zinc.

Paraloid B-67

Paraloid B-67 (formerly known as Acryloid B-67) is an Isobutyl Methacrylate polymer. This alkyd compatible acrylic ester resin is particularly designed to have good compatibility with paints and varnishes. Paraloid B-67 is a component of many coatings used in conservation, as for example picture varnishes. Soluble in acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, isopropanol, VM & P Naphtha and Stoddard Solvent.

Paraloid B-72

Paraloid B-72 (formerly known as Acryloid B-72) - an Ethyl Methacrylate copolymer is an excellent general purpose resin. It can be applied in either clear or pigmented coatings by a variety of application methods and can be air-dried or baked. Paraloid B-72 has a very low reactivity with sensitive pigments. It is durable and non-yellowing and is compatible with other film forming materials such as vinyl cellulosics, chlorinated rubbers, and silicones and can be used in combination with them to produce coatings with a wide variety of characteristics with emphasis on stability and transparency.

Paraloid B-72 is unique in possessing a high tolerance for ethanol. This property allows its use in applications where strong solvents cannot be tolerated. The alcohol dispersions may be cloudy or milky; however, clear, coherent films are formed.

Paraloid B-72 is insoluble in isopropanol and mineral thinners.

Paraloid F-10

Paraloid F-10 (formerly known as Acryloid F-10) is a butyl methacrylate polymer. This resin is medium in hardness and elasticity. While it possesses the water-white color, transparency and resistance to discoloration of the other Paraloid grades, it is somewhat less resistant to acids and alkalis and offers no resistance to petroleum hydrocarbons. Thus Paraloid F-10 makes possible acrylic coating which may be applied by brushing or dipping. Films of Paraloid F-10 tack-free at ordinary temperatures, but they become tacky at 100°F. This product is soluble in petroleum hydrocarbons. A few suggested uses: clear coatings on wood, cloth, metal and gravure inks. Paraloid F-10 is supplied at 40% solids in mineral thinner/Amsco Fat Solvent ratio of 9 to 1.

Kraton Polymers

A rubber additive used in conjunction with Regalrez 1094.

Acrysol

Acrysol WS-24 is a copolymer dispersion. Acrysol ASE-60 is an Alkali crosslinker thickener. Often used as thickening agents in conjunction with the Rhoplexes. WS-24 is also used as a consolidant by itself.

A low viscosity acrylic emulsion which yields resonably hard films when it dries. The films have unique adhesion properties. 46-47% solids, pH 9.0-10.0

Rhoplex N-580

N-580 is an acrylic emulsion in water, pH 7.5 to 8.5, 55% solids, which when applied to a surface and allowed to dry, leaves a pressure sensitive acrylic film with high tack and moderate peel adhesion. The acrylic film resist yellowing upon aging. N-580 films have been applied to mounting boards and used as a means of holding art works in position in a framing system.

Rhoplex MC-76

Rhoplex MC-76 is a fairly standard acrylic resin emulsion designed for formulation into coatings for cement and masonry surfaces. It is milky white in appearance and low in viscosity. It is shipped at a solids content of 46 to 48% with a pH of 9.5 to 10.0. It’s minimum film forming temperature is 10°C.

Butvar Resins

White, free flowing powders. Generally soluble in alcohols, acetone and aromatic hydrocarbons. Forms films similar to polyvinyl acetate and is suggested as picture varnishes. Widely used to waterproof textiles. The films resist degradation by sunlight and heat. Average molecular weight is 30-34,000.

Gold Leaf

The very best quality Italian Gold Leaf for fine work. Each sheet measures 80 mm by 80 mm. A booklet contains 25 leaves, which will cover about 1½ square feet, allowing for approximately 15% normal waste. The 22 KT leaf is the most commonly used, but the 23 KT leaf is softer and finds use where the most ductile leaf is needed.
